Karolína Stehlíková (ed.): Ipse ipsa Ibsen, 2006

Our first book, published in 2006, was a collection of studies commemorating the centenary of Henrik Ibsen’s death. This work features contributions from both experienced and emerging experts across various fields, including Nordic studies, theatre, translation, literature, dramaturgy, set design, and stage direction. The collection is organized in three sections: theatre studies, theatre practice, and literary and translation studies. Each article is accompanied by a summary in Norwegian. The publication received support from the Norwegian Committee for the Promotion of Henrik Ibsen’s Work. The illustrations are by Tomáš Profant, and the graphic design is by Milan Krištůfek.

Lars Norén, Jon Fosse, Astrid Saalbachová: 3×3 Norén, Fosse, Saalbachová, 2008

This anthology of nine plays was compiled to showcase the work of leading contemporary Nordic playwrights. Plays by Jon Fosse, who won the Nobel Prize in 2023, and Lars Norén are performed on the Czech stage from time to time. The 3×3 anthology attempts to map these playwrights’ creative pathways, which is why the selected plays are drawn from different periods of their work. The selection includes the following titles:

Lars Norén: Démoni (1982), Klinika (1994), Tichá hudba (2002) – translated by Zbyněk Černík
Jon Fosse: Někdo přijde (1996), Podzimní sen (1998), Variace na smrt (2002) – translated by Karolína Stehlíková
Astrid Saalbachová: Neviditelné město (1986), Požehnané dítě (1996), Konec světa (2003) – translated by Michaela Weberová

The collection is accompanied by an afterword that situates the presented playwrights’ works in a broader context. This publication was made possible, in part, by Norden – the Nordic Council Cultural Fund. The three-volume edition is presented in a cardboard sleeve. The graphic design is by Milan Krištůfek.

A bude živo! Pamětní tisk k narozeninám Františka Fröhlicha, 2014

To celebrate the birthday of František Fröhlich, an exceptional translator from the Scandinavian languages and English, we initiated and published this commemorative edition featuring a collection of heartfelt congratulatory contributions. This charming little book, bound in Japanese style, was released in a limited edition of just six copies. It can be viewed here. The graphic design is by Milan Krištůfek.

Hans Christian Andersen: Při nejzazším moři, 2016

This collection of seven fairy tales by Hans Christian Andersen, translated by František Fröhlich, was published posthumously thanks to the initiative of Fröhlich’s wife, Helena Fröhlichová. The collection is accompanied by an afterword written by Helena Březinová and features illustrations by Tomáš Profant. The graphic design is by Milan Krištůfek. The publication of this book was made possible through the financial support of Helena Fröhlichová.

Při nejzazším moři is a slim collection of short, largely previously unpublished stories about death, faith, pain, and love, beautifully rendered, with a fascinating afterword that explains, among other things, why we have only four reliable translations of Andersen, why they are really stories rather than fairy tales, and how extensively his work was edited in the past (and for what reasons).
