About Us
Elg is the joint initiative of four Nordic Studies graduates
from Masaryk University in Brno: Hana Kendíková (chairwoman
and coordinator), Kateřina Krištůfková (editor-in-chief), Daniela Mrázová (editor, fundraising, sales), and Karolína Stehlíková
(editor, promotion).
Hana, Kateřina, Daniela, and Karolína made their first forays into professional translation and editing as part of a student project, collaborating on the production of Když je ryba dobrá,
an anthology of short stories published by Větrné mlýny in 2001. Soon afterwards, they had the idea of establishing a small publishing house that would focus on neglected aspects
of Nordic culture in the Czech context.
The publishing house was officially established in 2003.
Its emblem is the Eurasian elk (or moose), a symbol of Northern Europe that is represented by just three letters in both Norwegian and Czech. Elg later became a registered association,
which enabled us to expand our scope. We have since published four books, produced one exhibition, organized several happenings, and arranged for several Norwegian authors to visit the Czech Republic.
